Week 5: October 1, 2023
Greetings,
Over the next two weeks, we will visit the East Lansing/Meridian Township Water Treatment Plant. The plant is located off Burcham Road, just east of Park Lake Road as shown on the map below.
October 3:
- Teams 1-5 will attend from 10:15-11:15 AM
- Teams 6-10 will attend from 11:15 AM -12:15 PM.
October 10:
- Teams 11-15 will attend from 10:15-11:15 AM
- Teams 16-20 will attend from 11:15 AM -12:15 PM.
I know this is a bit outside of our regular tutorial time, but I wanted to make sure that all students were able to spend an hour at the plant.
Please plan to carpool with your team as parking is limited and please arrive approximately 5 minutes early so that each of the groups will have an hour to see the plant. You should plan to enter the plant just off Burcham Road. There is a gate with a call box. When you enter the gate, keep to your right and then park in the lot in front of the main door.
I have posted a worksheet for the visit on LON-CAPA. You will need to take notes during the visit in order to complete Tutorial Assignment 3 (which will be due in November after we visit the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Please print this and bring it with you.
If your team is not visiting the plant, you should plan to work together on Tutorial Assignment 1 (Scavenger Hunt) and/or MiniDesign1.
This week, the homework on coagulation and lime-soda ash softening is due on Friday, Oct 6. The participation question will be done in class.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Dr. Masten
P.S. Please note if you search for the water treatment plant on Google, it will likely direct you to the wastewater plant on Trowbridge Road. We are NOT visiting that plant at this time.![]() |
