Week 15 Dec. 10, 2023

Greetings and Happy Sunday!

I hope you are all doing well.  For those of you who participated in Design Day and are graduating this December - congratulations!!! 🎓🎉 And a special congratulations to Alex and Kevin, who were members of Red Cedar LLC, who won the Rolla C. Carpenter Senior Design Award 🏆 for their CE495 design of the Consumers Energy Lansing Operations Center! More photos below of Design Day and also the new trail connecting campus with Meridian Township.

Grades for all the homework assignments and tutorial 3 are posted on LON-CAPA. I have also opened up the solutions to help you with MD3.

The assignments that are outstanding are:

  • Tutorial 3: Water Treatment Plant Demonstration Due Dec. 8 (Absolute deadline Dec. 10th, no extensions beyond the 10th)
  • Tutorial 4: Premise Plumbing Due Dec. 10th/ grace period to the 12th.  (This is to be done individually. You may choose to not do this assignment and I will then redistribute the 160 points for tutorials to the three tutorial assignments.  If you choose this option, you must upload a note stating such on the Tutorial 4 dropbox.)
  • MiniDesign3: Due December 15th at 11:59 PM. (Absolute deadline: Dec. 16th at 8 AM). There will be no grace periods given for this assignment as we need the time to grade the reports and submit grades by December 19th at 4 PM.
  • Final Peer Evaluation:  Due December 15th at 11:59 PM. (Absolute deadline: Dec. 16th at 8 AM).
  • Final Reflection: Was due Dec. 8, but I've set the question to remain open through Dec. 12.

I have also posted a grade calculator on LON-CAPA.

I will hold both in-person and Zoom office hours this week:

  • Zoom office hours will be held from 9-10 AM (link on LON-CAPA) on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • In-person office hours will be held from 11 am - noon in EB 3505 (my office) on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. If necessary, I will move office hours to the Trans Lab.

Graduating and still looking for full-time employment.  Please email me as I have several leads that I would be happy to pass onto you.

Finally, if you did not complete the following surveys this past week, please do so now.

It has been a pleasure working with all of you this semester! I wish you all the best and hope you'll keep in touch.

All the best,

Dr. Masten

Several years ago, the CE 495 project was the trail connecting campus with Meridian Township. Phase 1 of the new trail opened on Friday. It starts on Hagadorn by the MSU Community Music School and ends in Meridian Township by Foods for Living.  It was exciting to walk it on Saturday.
