Week 4: 9/24/2023

Happy Sunday!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend, despite the outcome of yesterday's game.  The weather was definitely beautiful.

Friday's extra credit question responses have been recorded.  As mentioned, the student with the closest score would get a prize. I calculated the closest score by:

Score = absolute value[predicted score for MD - actual score for MD] + absolute value[predicted score for MI - actual score for MI]

The winning score was submitted by the four person team of RJ, CC, HC, and MA.  I'll bring your prize on Monday.

On Monday, we'll finish the rapid mix example and if time allows, we'll do a homework problem (from the mass balance reactor theory homework).  On Tuesday, we will do a problem on flocculation. The worksheet will be available on LON-CAPA. On Wednesday we'll start the unit on lime softening.

This week the homework on mass balance and reactor theory is due on Friday at 11:59 PM. I have also opened the participation question, which is due on Friday also.

On October 6, the homework on coagulation/flocculation and lime softening will be due.

Next week during tutorial, we will visit the East Lansing/Meridian Township Water Treatment Plant. The plant is located off Burcham Road, just east of Park Lake Road.

October 3:

  • Teams 1-5 will attend from 10:15-11:15 AM
  • Teams 6-10 will attend from 11:15 AM -12:15 PM.

October 10:

  • Teams 11-15 will attend from 10:15-11:15 AM
  • Teams 16-20 will attend from 11:15 AM -12:15 PM.

I will provide more information next week, including a worksheet that you will need to complete for Tutorial 3.

Have a great rest of your day and see you in class on Monday.

On Sunday, I paced the 15:00 min mile for the Capital City River Run in Lansing.  Here are some photos from the race. Claudia and Angel were my pacing buddies.  We were the last pace group, so we were the engineers in the caboose!
